My name is Dominique Wilcox, formerly known as Dominique Doutre. Most people call me Dom (including people like my mom and my bishop) so I sometimes forget my actual name is Dominique. I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and then moved to Provo, Utah for college. I have lived here in Provo for almost 4 years now and I’m somewhat happy to call it home (I could do without the construction and their weird feeling of being stuck in a bubble that comes with it). After 5 major switches, and yes you read that right, I landed on history and will be graduating by the end of 2020.
This is my wonderful husband, Chase Wilcox.
We met at the end of our freshman year at BYU through his best friend, Jordan (who happened to take me on a date first lol). When people ask me what I like to do in my free time, I have to resist the urge to say “hang out with my husband.” I am one of those lucky people who married my best friend and we really enjoy things like kicking back at home with our cat, playing minecraft, and cooking together. (This is literally our ideal date night…if ice cream is involved). We also love board games, attempting to recreate our favorite fast food menu items, and going on walks. Chase is studying Biology at BYU and hopes to do something in the medical field.
We got married on August 23rd, 2019. It’s said all the time but it was literally the happiest day of my life, which is saying something because he proposed in France. For the proposal story, click here! For the full story of our wedding day, click here! I had the wedding of my dreams to the man of my dreams, so again, I am basically the luckiest girl in the whole world.
I am 1,000,000% a cat mom. Our little kitten’s name is Clover and she is pretty much the light of my life (besides my husband of course). She’s chatty, sassy, playful, demonic at times, and the funniest little animal I’ve ever interacted with. I will absolutely post about her on occasion for I simply cannot resist. If I wasn’t worried about annoying people, my twitter and instagram would both be ENTIRELY about my cat. My social media is still mostly about my cat because I *mostly* don’t care what people think, but hey, nobody is perfect. Clover is a registered emotional support animal and is VERY good at her job. I was diagnosed with PTSD and have pretty extreme anxiety and Clover is an expert at taking care of me. If I’m ever having a bad day, she seems to KNOW and will climb up onto my neck/shoulder/chest (as pictured) and just curl up and cuddle me (AN ANGEL.) I know I’ve said it a lot but I’m the luckiest gal. In the whole world.
My favorite song is #88 by Lo-Fang, my favorite movie when I was a kid was Aquamarine, my favorite color in general is yellow but to wear is dusty rose. I’ve always wanted to be good at roller skating but I really suck at it. I’m 22 years old, I’m allergic to vegetables but eat them anyway, and I am super afraid of needles and tomatoes (just kidding–but I do think they are nasty. One time when I was little, my mom really wanted me to like them so she made me eat a cherry tomato. I tried to swallow it whole and had to get the heimlich maneuver lol.) I love scuba diving, photography, music playlist curation, and my job.
I’m still learning to adult, be kind to myself, eat healthy, prioritize my life, manage my time, balance relationships, cook, keep a clean apartment, budget….all that stuff. I hope to write about all of it, while also writing about all the things that make me happy. I want to be more thankful, more compassionate, and more organized.
So I think that’s me, in a nutshell. Obviously people are more than a simple “About Me” section on their blog and I hope as I document my life, you’ll get to know the real me. And if nobody reads this, what a dope journal to show my kids someday. Thanks for reading.
